I’m think about taking some classes at Crealde School of Art in preparation for the M.Arch programs I will be applying to next year.

http://www.crealde.org/

By the way… here is a preliminary list of programs I’m thinking about…
If in L.A….
UCLA or
Sci-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture)
Cal Poly- Pomona (not sure how good this program is)

If in NYC…
Columbia
Parsons
with a minor possibility of Yale, if I decide to live in Connecticutt

If in Boston…
BAC (Boston Architectural Center… not sure how good this program is)
Harvard (Highly ranked, doubt I’ll get in, but it never hurts to apply)
M.I.T. (see notes on Harvard)
RISD (Rhode Island School of Design… not sure I want to live in Providence)
another minor possibility of Yale

If in D.C.
U of Maryland
Morgan State (not sure how good the program is)
Catholic Univ of America (not sure about this one either)
U of Virginia (this is a bit far away, but I might be able to commute)
Penn (this also a bit far, but I may be able to commute)

Now… if I could just narrow it down to one city… I’d be set. (but what happens if I can’t get in a program in my desired city? who knows!)

  • I might be moving to Virgina/Washington DC after graduation.

So it would be convenient to have ready access to gamers. 😉

  • found my way here via your post in the community….

    one architect’s opinion:
    if in l.a., sci-arc
    if in nyc, columbia
    if in boston, bac
    if in dc, uva

all very subjective…based on folks i’ve met who’ve gone to almost every school on the list…but don’t sell providence short, it’s a nice little city and risd is a great school…. i went to the university of oregon in eugene and the architectural association school of architecture graduate school [god, what a mouthful that is], in london.

  • Hi… thanks for the opinion. It’s always appreciated. 🙂

Currently the city depends on where my fiance ends up for her PhD in Counseling Psychology.

L.A. is at the bottom of my list because she would actually be going to school at UC Santa Barbara. That’s a bit of a commute in L.A. traffic.

NYC would work best because we could possibly go to school together at Columbia. 🙂

Boston is a little tougher, but definitely workable since there are so many schools in the area.

D.C. area is much more difficult because I think she would be going to U of Maryland… and I think I wouldn’t be happy unless I went to UVA which is quite a commute.

Argghhh!!!! For now all I have to really think about is working on a portfolio. We’ll know more about which school she’ll be attending by next summer.

  • hello samuel, it has been a while, i believe university of maryland is a very good school and as i am living in baltimore and am a homeowner here, i think it would be a great place for you and liz. it is a major step up from orlando, but not quite as large as new york, and quite cheap to live here. also MICA is here, don’t know if they have an architecture school, but it is a great art community and makes for a very creative city.
