We’re trying for the Cook Islands and New Zealand. The only way it’ll work, of course, is if we can do it with a honeymoon registry. What’s a honeymoon registry you ask? Well, think of a wedding registry, but instead of people buying you houseware, they buy you parts of your trip.

It’s an interesting idea and fits us a bit better than traditional wedding gifts. We’ve lived together for a long time now… and we’ve even owned a house together. It’s not like we need anymore houseware.

Anyway, we’ve been going back and forth with a travel agent and I really feel bad for them. I’m the undisputed champion of searching the internet for good deals. While I realize that having someone book stuff for me comes at a price, I reserve the right to check the prices to make sure they’re not out of line.

So the travel agent sends an itinerary where the difference in price between what I can find and what they can find is getting into the $2000 range. I point it out to the travel agent. They come back and say the prices I’m seeing don’t include taxes. I check with each place about taxes… and my prices are legit with taxes included.

Now it’s decision time. Obviously, these people think I’m about to pay them a couple of extra grand for tapping a few keys on the keyboard. Uh uh… they obviously don’t realize that I grew up on the Northside of Jacksonville. I ain’t going out like that. ;p

So now I need to build my own honeymoon registry website that will allow people to pay by CC or Check. I’ve looked at a couple of possibilities and it will take a solid week or two of coding (even with off-the shelf open source options). Considering that my skillz are far from l33t… that’s to be expected. Someone better than me could probably whip something up in a couple of days. Oh well… Here’s to no sleep for a couple of weeks. 🙁

You see… us folks from the Northside of Jacksonville, we believe in DIY. Everything is affordable, if you do it yourself. All my Highlands, Oceanway and San Mateo peeps… Holla!
of course, the sad reality is that there is only one other Northsider on my el-jay friends list

–sam

So Liz and I have been planning a honeymoon.
