My Best Man<\/p>\n
I told Liz I was going to DC for work. I told my best man I was going to be in his town for work. I lied to both of them.<\/p>\n
I flew up to visit my friend David for one reason\u2026 and one reason only. Out of all of my friends, and I have had some good ones throughout the years, I couldn\u2019t think of anyone that I would rather have as my best man.<\/p>\n
Why? Because David Berman truly is the best person I know. Sure, he has his foibles. We all do, but David exemplifies to me what is best about humanity. He is kind, caring and thoughtful. He\u2019s funny. He knows how to have a good time. He is one of my far flung brothers (the rest of you know who you are). He is in all respects the Best Man.<\/p>\n
So here\u2019s how it went down. I dropped a couple of hints on the phone, but David didn\u2019t catch on. He wasn\u2019t feeling well the day I visited, but David insisted on taking me out to lunch. (See? That\u2019s what I\u2019m talking about\u2026 he\u2019s a great guy).<\/p>\n
So we headed over to Panera for some tasty eats, and I lay it on thick that I had something important to tell him. We sat down to eat\u2026 and out came the \u201cI want you to be my best man.\u201d Then something peculiar happened. David asked, \u201cWhy me?\u201d<\/p>\n
At that point, I started to cry. I don\u2019t know why I started to cry, but let me tell you\u2026 those tear ducts were working over time. I pretty much told him what I just explained to all of you. He was shocked. And by shocked, I mean\u2026 nearly in tears.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s right folks\u2026 two grown men, sitting in a Panera\u2026 heavily emoting over their soup and sandwiches. It was a good day. \uf04a<\/p>\n
So there you have it\u2026 my tale of woe, sorrow and men that are best.
