It may be hard to imagine, but there are McDonald’s in Thailand. Not only that, but I also spied a Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Pizza Hut. There are even 7-11s.

However, these types of chains are few and far between. 7-11 is probably the most prominent. Fast food restaurants are nearly non-existent. So much so, in fact, that when you do happen to see a McDonald’s you’re forced to do a triple take to make sure you really saw one.

Most everyone will agree that a dearth of American-style fast food is probably a good thing. Some, however, will dig further and ask… well what do you in Thailand for a quick bite?

For the answer to that, one does not need to look further than the street. There are street vendors EVERYWHERE in Thailand. If you’re feeling thirsty, there is the soda vendor. If you’re feeling like some fresh fruit, there is the fresh fruit vendor. What… you say you have a hankering for dried squid? Well, my friend, you’re in luck because the dried squid vendor us just around the corner. Hmmm… Dried squid doesn’t do it for you? How about porridge with meat and veggies? or grilled chicken skewers? or grilled fish balls? or corn on the cob (yes, corn on the cob)? …well you get the idea.

There are all kinds of vendors, selling all kinds of food EVERYWHERE. I don’t want to give you the wrong idea either. These vendors aren’t yelling at you trying to get your business. They’re just there ready to take your order at a moment’s notice. So yeah… there are McDonald’s in Thailand, but the only reason to go is if you really must have a cheeseburger right now!
